Upgrade my internet connection?

Honestly, I've had up to here with my parents. We still have DSL and we still have our original modem and router. PLEASE someone help me. They are gone till the 20th so I have some time to upgrade everything (I hope).

Currently we are on Verizon DSL (I know, it's my parents not me, I've been trying to get them to get high-speed for a LONG time)

Modem: Westell Model 2200
Router: Linksys Model BEFW11S4

Main computer (responsible for internet connection in the house) is an old Dell desktop running Windows 2000, no one ever uses it anymore and it remains off all the time.

PLEASE, someone tell me what new modem/router/combination of the two that I can buy to get some more speed out of this. Anything and everything, all suggestions are welcome.
