how do i fix this? I want to hide it from ALL of my friends.

Did you go to your privacy settings? Go there and choose who you want to disable the timeline activity. It should show up saying limit audience for past posts. Think that should help

the only way to do that is to add all of your friends to your restricted list, but then no one will see any of your status updates either

it's the ticker that shares that information, not your timeline
