PS4 questions?

When im setting up internet connection the the ps4 it keeps saying plug in a lan cable and i do a ethernet cable.....it still says plug in a lan cable

Well... is the other side of the Ethernet cable plugged into a router or wall port? Also the problem could be that you're trying to use a phone cord as an Ethernet cable(which a lot of people try), which just doesn't work. If you are trying to use a phone cord, I suggest getting a real Ethernet cable.
