Online marketing refers to using online channels like websites, blogs, email to drive traffic and sales to your website. Examples could be things like buying banner space in a website, creating a blog post for your company blog, maintaining a website for your company, running an email marketing campaign and a whole lot more.
Advantages:
- It is usually cheaper than offline marketing although banner space in a popular website can cost lots of money it is still cheaper than buying billboards etc
- Hundreds of options compared to offline marketing
- Quicker to implement, analyze and repeat or discard
- Usually has clear mechanisms to track results
- Things like blogs, websites can have long term value compared to offline marketing
