It's a satellite or a group of satellites in space and the connection works from ground satellites to space satillites to everywhere around. Without the satillites the internet wouldn't be what it is today. :-)

The internet is everywhere. Servers and computer are connected to each other to create a network. That why we are moving to ipv6 because there are too many devices connecting to the internet.
