How to privately talk to someone on twitter?

I've had twitter a while, but never really used it, I've always used Facebook more since everyone had that and uses it more too... But recently I got my twitter back up and began using it a bit more.

My friend told me of this girl and I looked her up on Facebook and thought she was beautiful, she's the same age as me, lives in the same area but went to a different school. I sent her a friend request but she hasn't accepted, I came to the conclusion she didn't want to accept me to be honest, although she had no reason too considering we had a lot of mutual friends. I then learned that she doesn't use her Facebook at all and uses twitter more, so obviously I followed her on twitter instead. It kinda feels creepy that I added her on Facebook then twitter because she didn't accept, but I want to talk to her.

Problem is, twitter is a little more complicated than Facebook, if you wanna talk to someone on Facebook, you click their name and it pops up, private. On twitter it seems you can only tweet someone and privately, but can they reply? How do you reply? Can someone who is following someone but isn't being followed back by them send a private message?

So my question is as the title says, how do I privately talk to this girl on twitter?

You can only direct message her if she's following you back. And direct messaging is private xxx good luck!

I use twitter always. And no, you cant send a direct message to someone who is not following you. The user must be following you before you can send him or her a direct message. Good luck tho im sure she'll follow you soon enough!
