All politics is local. Local government is the basic fundamental unit of all government.

The need of the larger society are manifested also in the local community. While as a college student it is unlikely that you live where the collrgr is located, except for beimg on campus, the active participation in the local government is not a viable option. While there are groups promoting all kinds of causes from fighting global warming to balacing the budget these are very lage projects and the results not easily obtained. What you really need is something realtively simple and easy to fo and acompliish. I suggest that your group select some issues that are reflected incurrent bills in Congress or the Legislature of the State. You may want to focus on issues that affect college students. Here is an example of a possibility: Not all students like to live with others, some student prefer to live alone as they find that it promotes their ability to study. Other students perfer roommates. There is a real need for single person residency housing. this is true not only on campus by also in the larger society. Persons who earn minimum wage almost by necessity need roomates to make end meet. There Single Resident Occupancy program need to be expanded to meet the economic needs of the minimum wage earners and those who are economically disadvantaged. This is called the SRO program and is a program of HUD (Housing and Urban Development). This is just one example.

Another example that could more pertain to college students directly on your campus would be to propose and advocate for a new regulation that would allow students on campus to keep small pets. Pets have been found to increase learning in children and they provide companionship and help to reduce stress, experienced by individuals of of all ages, including college age students.

AS FOR THE LARGER SOCIETY..........

As individuals you can comment on proposed government regulations that are open for public comment. This information can be found at Regulations.gov.

You can also review the bills before Congress and your State Legislature and comment on the ones that are of interest.
