What does it mean if nobody talks about an engagement?

An old friend of mine got engaged...and the strange thing is...they have been engaged for awhile and nobody in their family has mentioned it. It barely even got posted on Facebook. And even then, the picture is just of them standing next to each other, not showing off the ring or anything. And hardly anybody liked/commented on it lol.
Is this one of those: "Yeah they are engaged, but I don't agree with their decision" things or something like that?

Facebook just posts whatever picture it has of two people together when they change a relationship status, even if it's to engaged or married. If it was a relationship status thing, that's why. Even if they did post that picture for it I wouldn't think anything, I think posting pictures of the ring is kind of tacky. Who knows why people aren't excited about it, they don't matter.
