How do I stop facebook from suggesting me to others?

I hate it when people I don't want to associate with send me friend requests. I suspect this is caused by facebook suggesting me to those people. On a couple of occasions the friend suggestion adds compelled me to add people I didn't want to to my friends. I want to know how stop facebook from advertising me to others.

Then dont accept their friend request, its simple, if you dont want to, give up your facebook acount and deactivate it.
