scared i wont make friends in college?

It's always been really hard for me to make friends because i'm quiet and I can't just go up and talk to people. It's my senior year and I finally feel like i've been opening up more and having more fun, i'm just so scared when I leave my friends I won't make new ones. One of my best friends is going to the college also but he's a guy and we wouldn't be majoring in the same thing so I wouldn't see him that often, and he's shy too so i'm nervous that we'll just be so comfortable with each other we won't talk to anyone else. There's a facebook group for my college class of 2018 and 90% of the girls that post anything are like super gorgeous and I have absolutely nothing in common with any of them. Half of them are dance or physical education majors and i'm going to be a psychology major. And they all want to be in sororities. What do I do? any advice?

I thought the same thing when I started college. Believe me college is a whole different ball game then high school. The great thing about college is by that time every could use a friend and making them are a lot easier then it was in high school. I mean you'll already have one thing in common with the people your taking classes with...your major...so small talk will be easy and before you know you'll have more friends then you know what to do. Plus its exciting to keep in touch after you graduate.

I am also going to be starting college this fall and have the same worry, so I have talked to friends and therapists who are or have been in college. From what I've gathered I can tell you that college is nothing like high school. I have went to the same school practically all my life, so from a young age my "cliché" was already chosen. College though is a brand new start, there will be a lot of new people there who are just as scared and nervous as you, and will be happy to make friends with anyone. Plus the social networks at colleges are huge. There will be bars and hang outs where you can meet new people, if you make one friend more then likely they will introduce you to others and it will continue to grow. Don't worry to much, and think of college as a new start. Try to get out of your comfort zone a lil and it will start being easier and easier.
