How to make yourself offline on facebook?

Facebook has a messaging feature, right, so how do I make myself appear offline? Or at least offline to some people? Like, they can still message me, but while I'm on facebook, it makes me seem as if I'm offline, is that even possible? I really need some help on this. Very annoying when I'm on for just a moment and someone messages me, CONSTANTLY >,<

Any help is appreciated!! Also, can they SEE when I make it so they're offline for me? o~o Thanks!!

When you go onto Facebook chat, through a laptop/computer, there should be a small green icon at the top of the chat. This shows whether you're online or offline, to determine whether you're online or offline, you go onto your list of contacts and at the top, there should be a small green icon. Click on that, and it should come up with opitions. If not, you can simply unfriend this person and they cannot see your profile and message you again.
