Is my router compatible with my router?
Is there any reason why a Motorola SURFboard SB6141 cable modem and a Netgear WNR200 wouldnt work with each other? I just got the modem, and i havent got a chance to mess with EVERYTHING, but I have an internet connection when im directly connected to the modem, but when i connect my router, the internet doesnt connect, even though the modem still has a conection.

Make sure you reboot the modem when you swap devices. If you don't the ISP will ignore you for an hour.

Reset the router and reconfig.

Does your new router have a "clone" function? If so, try setting it to your PC/Laptop's MAC address. You get that info by opening up a CMD window and entering the command: ipconfig /all -- locating the "Ethernet adapter" section, and finding the "Physical Address" line. It should be six 2-digit hex numbers.

The reason a lot of routers have this function is that some ISPs track the MAC address of the PC that's used to set up the Internet connection and only allow this device to connect. If you're in this condition you can either use the router's "Clone" function, which allows your router to pretend to have the same MAC address as your PC, or you can usually contact your ISP's Tech Support team and have them put your router's MAC address in their table.

The first and most obvious is to be sure that you have the ethernet cable connected from the modem to router is in the correct port (i.e. to the WAN/Internet port).

Second, disconnect the ethernet cords from the modem, router, and PC. Unplug the modem and wait 1 minute, then plug it in. Unplug the router, connect the cable, plug the router back in and wait 1 minute. Plug the ethernet cord from router to PC. Wait a minute then check the connectivity.

If that fails, then try using the Clone Mac address feature in the router's configuration.

If that fails, then contact your ISP.
