I've been called a goth/punk/emo poser and I feel so humiliated?
There's these 2 girls that I used to go to school with. Let's call them Grace and Anna. Grace is the girl that I have always liked. I always felt like I needed to impress her and I always tried hard to be close to her. She wasn't girly. Actually, she was the opposite. But that's what I thought was so awesome about her.
A few years later I moved schools but then got in contact with her again over the Instagram. Whenever she would like a picture of mine or talk to me, I felt so excited for some reason. Then I found out her best friend Anna had it too.

I'm LOVE with the band Paramore. I got suggestion that should start listening to My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco which have similar music genre. I also found out Grace and Anna liked these bands too, so I was excited to share some interests with them.
I started to listen to those bands. I really liked their songs, and before you knew it my account was flooded with MCR pictures and stuff.
Grace and Anna noticed this and later Anna posted a picture that said 'Some people are just fake punk' with a little skull or something. Grace and Anna talked to eachother in the comments section saying how they don't like how some people aren't themselves. Then Anna tagged me in it.
I felt so embarrassed. I feel like they think I'm copying them or I'm fake. I want them to like me. I'm sorry this is long but I want you to know why being called fake makes me feel like I'm not good enough for someone I try to be friends with.

You are not fake if you become a fan of a band in one night, how could anyone think about that? There are a band that I have fallen in love with and I have been listening to them just a couple of days ago.
I don't know about those friends of yours but I'm pretty sure they're just jealous, they think they can only be the fans of these bands!

You are a poser for sure if:
1. You don't like metal
2. You don't think that "dark" or "twisted" things are beautiful.
Some traits that help:
1. Preferring to wear darker colors
2. Being creative
3. Being intelligent
4. Being open minded
5. Being tolerant

Those girls sound more like posers to me

Even if you don't like the music but you like the style, who cares? It's what you like. Take pride in being unique!

Forget about those girls they are dumb

Someday, you'll just get sick of all these noise. Punk music is so dumb.
If you want to get girls, learn classical music and play sports. I assure you that if you do this combination, you're gonna be that one guy in college that gets laid every weekend.

Well MCR and all those other bands aren't punk anyway.
And why are you friends with people who treat you like that?
You'd only be a punk poseur if you claimed to be part of the punk subculture but never knew what you were doing or the background of punk.
All I see is that you're listening to music because you like it, not because or any other reason. I think maybe they think you're being fake because they liked the band first.

So yeah, ditch them because they're clearly not good friends.

They are probably calling you a fake punk because those bands aren't actually punk, but a lot of people who listen to them think they are. Don't take it personally.
