There is no real better to be honest but to be honest if it was me making the choice between the two then i would go with the chromecast mainly because of the google power and support and the fact it is simply so cheap and affordable.

It is a little hard to compare because Roku is a brand that has currently 4 different devices (Roku Streaming Stick, Roku 1, Roku 2, and Roku 3) while Google Chromecast is one specific streaming stick device. So comparing a $100 Roku 3 to a $35 Google Chrome isn’t really fair. Roku 3 would have much better processing power allowing for faster search, scrolling and loading, have a remote with headphone jacks, etc.

It would be a little more even to compare the Roku Streaming Stick to the Google Chromecast. Chromecast would win in the price department. Chromecast is $35

and Roku Streaming Stick is $50

Chromecast uses your smart phone or tablet as a remote while Roku ST gives you a remote. This is a matter of preference on which you would like more. I personally like having a separate remote.

Chromecast is pretty new and has way less content than Roku. One of the biggest examples is Amazon Prime Instant Video is on Roku and not on Chromecast. Roku has been around for years and has worked out contracts with different providers to have more channels. Chromecast has almost been out a year so its content is limited, it has been expanding its content but it is still far behind Roku. If all you are going to do is stream Netflix and Youtube then Chromecast would definitely suffice however if you want more channels like Vudu, History Channel, Amazon Prime Instant, Redbox, Blockbuster etc you should look into a Roku device.

You can compare the channel list here

I personally would get a Roku over Chromecast, specifically I would get a Roku 3 or an Amazon Fire Tv.
