i have a linksys WRT320N that ive had for a few years and from a few days ago it keeps disconnecting?
the main usage i give to the router is gaming on my xbox, recently while playing ive been experiencing sudden lag and internet drops every 3 to 5 minutes which makes it impossible to game.

its not only on the xbox it happens, on every computer also. i tried connecting directly to the router and its the same.
do you guys know hoe to help me?

NOTE:
-firmware up to date on the router
-connected directly to modem and connection works perfectly fine
-the router is in constant usage if its not gaming its downloading something i dont know if it matters

THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP IN ADVANCE!
do you guys know how to help me?* my bad
DrDave look what i wrote on the notes, i said that i connected directly to modem for a few hours and the connection was perfectly fine not even a second of lag not one connection drop! thank you anyway
The Incredible Chris i tried that earlier and its the same, as i said before even when connected directly to the router by cable its still dropping. thank you anyways!

What makes you think the modem isn't the problem? Connect a pc directly to the modem and see if the problem persists before you make assumptions and throw money at a problem. If it IS the modem or beyond and you lease the modem, call your provider. It's THEIR responsibility.
Edit: Then on to step 2.
Reset the router. Find the reset button and hold it in for 30 seconds. Run your devices for awhile and see if the problem is gone. If yes, set the security back up.

How often do you turn off the router and cable modem? I do that at least once a week to keep it healthy.

If I had to take a wild guess.... I would say that you probably have the router on the default channel it was set too when you bought it. If so, then other people living nearby are probably using that same exact channel and that is causing interference for you. Just go to your settings and change the channel. You could also try installing a few WiFi channel locator that tells gives you a listing of all the channels detected that are in use in your area.... then they way you can select a channel that isn't being used or is least used by everyone else and select that one.
