How to talk to a girl you haven't really met but kinda like on FB...?

There's this girl on FB that I haven't really met but we're still friends on Facebook regardless (you know how we teens roll). But I kinda like her through what's on her FB and what I've heard of her, but don't know how I should basically talk to her digitally.
I don't want to seem like a creep and post/chat 'HEY', and nor do I want to be a freak and say 'OMG! I LOVE YOU!'
So how should I get the ball rolling? I'm kind of awkward in small talk and tend to make things an interview or something... Please help? I should add that I'm reaching rather 'higher' on the social status/hotness levels (she's more social, attractive than me).
oh and she's not like some random creep or fake fb profile or something, she's a legit normal person.

lol well add her, start talking to her normally and say hey and stuff like that, then if it all goes well give her your number, text her from time to time,then go in for the kill to ask if she wants to hangout.

omg, never start chat with a girl you don't know on FB, at least I think that, when girls I don't know talk to me on fb but not irl, it would piss me off, but maybe she would be okay with it. Just be a man and start small talk

Well depending on what you see that you like on FB compliment her on it, ex: "hey i didn't know you listen to that band" then get going on that subject. if she is as social as you say she should help you with small talk. as long as she starts it, you should be able to continue. only do things in your comfort zone. if it doesn't feel right then don't do it. all you need to do is talk about something you like and can have a good conversation about. good luck!
