What to tell a suicidal/depressed person?
Ok so on instagram there is this girl and she is my age (14) and she cuts herself really really bad and has tried to kill herself twice already. I have been giving her a lot of support and she says she appreciates it but I want to not just support her, but help her get better. What are some things to say to her to help? I don't want to be mean or sound sassy I understand her and I don't think she should have to go through this she is so pretty but she calls herself fat and ugly. I don't know her but we are kinda online friends.

Just letting her know that she has the option of talking to you as a distraction to self harm can help. You personally have very little power, though it's lovely of you to want to help her. She truly needs to be in therapy, where she can be learning and adapting healthy coping mechanisms.

You can also urge her to call a suicide prevention hotline when she feels that to be the only course to follow. Let her know that there will be a lot of grieving and hurting people she'll leave behind if she does kill herself and that you will be one of them.
