Trouble with Internet connection.Please help!?
I am paying an account every month to my ISP for my internet connection on my single computer. the other day, i cannot access the internet, it keeps dropping off, and i have a very unstable connection. For short i cannot use the internet. I troubleshoot my network connection, but it said that i have a conflict wqith my IP address, it has been used by another system in the network. I checked my IP address through command prompt and it stated 192.168.0.1...i am puzzled! is it that i am paying for a very expensive internet connection but i do not have my own account? Does it mean that my internet connection is shared by other subscribers like through hubs or routers ? Does it mean that i don't have my personal account when in fact i am paying a high price per month for it? it is a DSL and not a dial up so i am puzzled why it is so slow before. Is it possible that when you are directly having an account from the ISP,the IP is still accessible by another subscriber?i need some light on this

first of all, an IP is your computer, not your networks, second, ANY internet will be slow whan there are lots of people using it, third, get a new ISP, that one is messed up

first all if you have a dynamic IP you will have your ip changed most of the time. Some times you will have the same IP address. For 192.168.0.1 is actually the gateway modem address to link inside your DSL modem. under the configuration you will actually see your the DSL IP address which is different from 192.168.0.1.
There is possibilities that your modem could have taken the dump as it is always dropping connection. Try having your ISP replace that modem.

The user quantity does not mean a thing! You can have 5000 users on your connection, and still be stable enough to browse the internet. The 192.168.0.1 is your computer IP address with the router.
If you want your REAL IP address go to ipchicken.com
So, here is the IP Address decoder. 192.168.0.0 would be your router IP address. Meaning, your IP address registers automatically. So, whatever the next number up is, that is your computers IP address. Any internet provider, you have your own account. You have a PPPoE. That is an acronym for Point to Point Protocool over Ethernet. its a ADSL service. So, the internet connection can connect to your ADSL Tranceiver or your DSL modem. Unless you have a wireless router, unencrypted, then you ARE vulnerable to having other people on your DSL plan. Basically, you have your OWN PPPoE address. No one can connect to it. So, the PPPoE goes to your modem. Which then will go to your router, if available. Then to your computer. But, some people have a ethernet cable coming out directly from your modem into your computer. If that's the case, you are NOT vulnerable to having people connected to your connection.
So, last thing would be, a virus keeps downloading files from the internet, which will basically drain your internet.
My advice, put a firewall up now! Someone can be DOSing your computer. A hacker, like me. It means Denial Of Service. They put in your IP address or commonly used a website URL, then requests like 1000 pages in a milisecond. So, its basically FLOODING your internet. Sometimes servers or computers crash during this.
Point of advice, put a firewall up. So, it will block all incoming ports.
Next advice, download spyware terminator or AVG and scan your computer for threats. If it doesn't help, I would email the Internet Service Provider. Or chat. Or phone. Which ever you are more comfortable with..

Hope this helps! Probably not, but I winged it.
Also, I had this problem A LOT! If you have a phone line and a DSL line splitter, replace that. Usually the ISP gives you three. Replace it. That will help. It happens to me all the time. Also, shut down your modem. And router is you have one. Then, boot up the modem. Wait 10 seconds. then router, wait 10 seconds. Then boot up the computer.
