What else do we need other then directory and bookmark submission to upgrade our search engine rank?

After release of Hummingbird the search engine rank of my website is continuously falling down though i am doing high PR directory and bookmark submissions. Can anyone suggest me what other than submission, help me to upgrade my search engine rank?

Bookmarking and most directory submissions are not very good rank drivers, there may only a handful of directories respected by the search engines, many of them with paid submission.

You should diversify your backlink sources, with some blog comments, forum posts, article site submissions, and with some work gust posts on influential sites. Perhaps 15% of backlinks can have a variety of keyword anchor text.

Write real content first for your readers, not keyword stuffed search bait, this may get you more long tail keyword matches.

My opinion would be go for article submission and use one article for only one keywords that would surely help you out to recover your ranking.

try creating back links of your website to be visible in relevant searches.
