Tagged in a Facebook Comment?

My wife posted a funny pic saying, to one of her friends.
She also had some comments later underneath the post and she mentioned me in the comment.
Why can I not see the posts or comments from my Facebook account? Do I have to be friends with her friend, even though my wife tagged me in the comment? OR is there some weird Facebook setting that needs changed.
OK. let me try again. My wife posted a funny pic to her friends timeline. she later commented on it and included my name in the comment. (this should be the same as tagging or I should get a notification on my page saying the my wife mentioned me in a comment) This is on her Facebook page. Why can I not see the pic and comments on my page, so I can comment on it as well?
