Mass media can be the influencers of social norms. Basically the cause(mass media)--->Effect(social norms).

This is not always the case though. Some social norms that exist today have been in place long before mass media.

Mass media inundates and sways the masses with ideas and opinions. These ideas and opinions are either positively or negatively portrayed. Enough people who see the same over and over and over again start to accept what they see as the norm: "[It's] on TV all the time. Everyone (they see on TV) loves/hates [this]. [This] is good/bad, fair/unfair, right/wrong, cool/not cool. [It/this] must be normal/right/good. it's it's own form of brainwashing except the ones being brainwashed are willing victims.

Let me cite an example for you.

Home-made pornos were (and should be) tabboo. Conduct by role models and those who are given so much media attention are the worst examples you can get.
Mass media drowns us with celebraties and their sordid sex lives.
So now Is it really that shocking when Mylie dry humps a foam finger on a "family" award show?

Mass media should be condemned for the kind of crap like 'E' and the Kardashians - all of which just desensitize the population to evil behavior and distract us from the world around us and the plight of humanity.

A person can better reject false ideologies like political correctness and mindless conformity if he or she practices devotion to the rоѕаrу.
