Why did my ex try to message me about something that was unnecessary?

So yesterday my ex messaged me on fb...

Him: hey are you going to that church thing for your grandpa? Just asking
* I read the message on FB, but I didn't respond then he sent me another message saying "yeah or no?"
Me: Idk
Him: oh I was just asking cause we're going.. Just saying
Me: Ok
Him: yeah so wyd?
Me: chillin... Wbu?
Him: Same, bored...

*i never messaged him back*

I think that was unnecessary... I don't think it should matter if I went or not... We just broke up like 3 weeks ago and when I asked him if he wanted to work things out he just said "I don't know" so I just left him alone ever since and then he messages me this.. It probably sounded mean just responding short answers, but I'm still kind of hurt..

Ignore him..he's probably feeling a bit guilty about the break up and just wanted to make sure you are ok. If you continue talking to him, it might spark hope on your end which hurts if he's just simply checking on you.
