I have a question about choosing a domain name for SEO?
I wish to buy a domain name containing matched key words. I have 3 keywords I am targeting. I do not want to go into specifics here. But say the words I am trargeting for SEO purposes are X, Y and Z. The search volume for XY, YZ and XZ individually, is quite high. However the search volume for XYZ together is 0. So my question is, would it still make sense to buy a domain name called XYZ.com or should I make a choice between XY.com, XZ.com and YZ.com.?
Thanks Mark. XYZ.com will contain 21 characters in total. Is that ok?
So guys. I am finding it difficult to chose the best answer both Mark and Abhijit seem right in their own way. However I am going for Mark as I do still believe that keywords in url still has some weightage based on my current existing website

I would strongly recommend to go with a brandable name which is unique and easy to remember. Google has stopped giving value to exact match domain names for they look spammy. Next generation SEO will be more focused on brand building and customer satisfaction. So do some brainstorming and come up with some excellent short and sweet brand name and build your business around it.

Jabong.com, olx.com and similar sites have also done the same and today they are number one brand names in their niche. Hope you will agree with my views. Good luck!

Hi,

Why don`t you try something totally out of box. Instead to compete with old domain names, try to promote some new one. If you have quality product, the name will became brand, and is nothing better than that.

So my advice. Forget those 3 words. Go with some unique. Don`t buy old domains. domain age is a factor, but the whole domain story is absolute and not that important for Google anymore.

Than promote that name. Social media, articles, even guerrilla offline marketing.

There are many examples, I will mention just few of them. Flickr, Surface, Picasa, even Google. I know that this is hard to achieve, but there isn`t some shortcut for that.

Hope that helps, a little bit.
