I asked my boyfriend via fb chat a question about music, he answered, and I guess to be flirty I wrote back "Why are you so smart? :3" and he went offline.

It would of been better to say "ur so smart" and not asking him a question, it is a bit of a weird question as there is no real answer too it so leaves the guy in a difficult possition

If he's your boyfriend like you say he is then you definitely did not come on too strong! That isn't even a big deal to say to someone at all! He probably just disconnected from the internet or something.
