when facebook timeline was released, did it make everyones information private automatically?

i had updated to the new facebook timeline back when it first cane out in january. i don't remember if it did, but recently i checked how my wall looked to see "how it looked to the public" and saw that it showed some of my old posts. SO
when the facebook timeline first came out, did it automatically make everyones posts private?
