Should I buy a Kindle?
So my mums old PC broke and she only uses Facebook, so I was looking around to buy her either a Kindle or a random tablet, trouble is I don't have a lot of money (Budget of about £30-£40) and have seen a number of Kindles on ebay for such prices, they are working and everything but I want to be sure that the Kindle can definitely handle facebook, not fussed about how much memory it needs as she prefers paper books over ebooks *shrugs* so should I go for a particular type of Kindle or can every one of them handle facebook?

Note: she will only be using the Kindle in the house so it only needs to be able to use Wi-fi (which I know all Kindles can do).

Thanks for taking the time to help.

It depends what Kindle you are talking about.

There are greyscale eInk ereader Kindles (Kindle, Kindle paperwhite and old models Kindle Touch & Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 2&3 ) and there are Kindle Fire color tablets.

The greyscale eInk models have a slow screen w/ long battery life. They are for reading. They have an experimental browser which cannot do video or animations (because eInk is a slow screen), no Flash support, no apps (just a few slow "active content" things like sudoku and a notepad). And the current models have no audio at all. These are excellent for reading but not a computer replacement at all. In addition most do not have a touchscreen and are very awkward to use for typing or anything but reading. They can bring up the mobile Facebook site but it's not great to use Facebook on them. They are for reading.

A Kindle Fire color tablet is a touch-screen tablet with a custom version of Android. There is audio and video support via apps. There is no flash available for tablet browsers any more but you can get a Youtube app to view Youtubes (Kindle Fire apps come for the Amazon app store, not from the Google Play store). You can use a Facebook app or visit the the Facebook site with the browser. It may not be able to do animations/videos on other sites because Adobe removed support for Flash on tablets and the Puffin browser (has flash) is not available in the Amazon app store.

if you want to compare the specs of various kindle devices available then you can do so here. Just open the product and add it to the compare basket and hit compare. You can then compare specs side by side and make informed decisions.
