"Unable to connect to the proxy server" Trying to connect to Netflix on google chrome, macbook?
Last night, this was working fine, but this afternoon, for whatever reason I keep getting this error message saying that my system is set to use a proxy but google can't connect to it, but I followed all the suggested solutions by going into my system preferences, network, advanced, and deselecting all proxies, but I'm still getting the error message.

I'm on my macbook, using google chrome as my browser, and I'm also using MediaHint to get US netflix. Any ideas on what my problem could be and how I could fix it? Thanks.

If "proxy" keeps coming up, and you cleared it in the network and browser settings, then 100% sure you have some virus that is re-setting the proxy settings. Hackers do this to re-direct all your network traffic through their proxies, so they can capture all your traffic and information (they do this for identity theft). Often, the hacker proxy gets shut down or blocked by ISPs, but your virus is still trying to connect to it, failing every time.

Time to do a full virus scan, and a Malware scan. Re-check all browser settings and network settings, to make sure you do not have any proxy enabled.

Trying to get to US Netflix requires some form of IP spoofing or some "proxy". It may be that which has been blocked or shut down. Remove that software, and check if you can get Netflix at least in Canada.

When "A" stops working with "B", try "C". Test with Firefox. (MediaHint can be installed in FF also.)
If it fails with Firefox also, contact Netflix.

If it works with FF, remove the ad-on extension from Chrome and reinstall the extension... or just ditch Chrome, since it has no real advantages on a Mac.

Chrome facts….

– It is old-school 32-bit, so it is not compatible with the new Retina displays (text will look fuzzy: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/65715.jpg )
– It is difficult to set preferences (a maze of extensive reading instead of just simple check box options.
– It is not as secure as Safari 6.
– It is not as customizable as Firefox.
– It is not faster than Safari (Using the latest RobotHornet testing). See this: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/10/bro...era-12-02/
– It quits occasionally on two of my Macs where I use it just for testing.
– It takes up more than four times the drive space as Safari (140MB compared with 30MB)
– It uses six times the memory as Safari.

The problem is Media Hint. In Chrome, go to Settings / Extensions, turn off Media Hint. This should work, but unfortunately not for those outside the United States.
