Windows Vista Service Pack support ended in 2010. Mainstream support ended in 2012. And Extended Support will end on 4/11/2017. Microsoft could change the Extended Support end date but it is unlikely. As Windows Vista has finally, after 2 Service Packs become a pretty stable OS, I see no reason for you to upgrade to Windows 7 at this time. You are good to go for the next 3 years and Windows 8 is, IMO, not an OS you will like.
