1. Don't be credulous
2. Investigate a person who puts out something controversial before accepting it
3. Be cautious and recognize social media sites include dangerous people
4. Don't be too attached or obsessive to social media
5. When interacting on social media don't put out information or text that you wouldn't say to in public
6. Interact with others as if you were talking to them personally and not through a computer

1) Try to find empowering media, and avoid unhelpful media like fashion magazines and certain shows/movies.

2) Do a little sociology research; they surely don't realize all the ways they're being manipulated.

3) Constantly self-check: thoughts? motivations? assumptions? actions? habits?

4) Remember that most media sources have the bottom line as their top priority. What do advertisers want you to think?

5) Advertisers need your attention; they will exaggerate anything, create excitement (positive or negative), show whatever makes people want to keep watching.

6) It behooves the media to be friends with whichever part of the government is in power, and have manipulated wars and policy throughout history.

I'm not saying that "the media" (generalization, duh) is *evil* r anything; it's totally necessary, inevitable, and more useful than harmful. I'm just talking about manipulation.

There are 2 steps to take:

1.Educate yourself on what’s t rue and what’s false.

Social media succeeds in manipulating us because we still chase after false values it instills in us - individualism, exaggerated sense of self-importance, over-indulgence, etc. These are false things to pursue because they contradict order of thing arranged by Nature. Nature’s principal of existence is equilibrium. Social media attempts to manipulate us and values it promotes are in conflict with Nature and are unsustainable. Understanding it resolves 50% of the problem.

2.Expose yourself to the influence of much stronger environment.

It’s not enough to simply distant yourself from bad influence. You also need consciously expose yourself to the influence of environment promoting different values. If this environment preaches and practices values of mutuality, acceptance and support (as intended by Nature), being exposed to it even 1 hour a day, will protect you from being so easily manipulated by the media. This is another 50% Smile

Community of people represented by site below is trying to do precisely that. Brows it if you have time. Hopefully it resonates with you. All the best!
