Internet problems, what should I do?
I've been really fed up with my internet lately, I have good internet I get between 50-80mbps depending on the time of day but that's standing next to my router. I also have a really nice $200 router. But that's in my basement on the south side of my house and my room is 2 floors up on the north side. When I stand in the middle of my room I get 20-30mbps but when I take 3 steps and sit on my bed I get .2mbps. It's like the corner of my room is a dead zone and I don't know why. My dad said that in that corner is where all of our power and internet come into the house. Could this be messing up my internet and what can I do to change it? And I can NOT move my router! I don't know what to do!

It's the fact that your in the dead corner on the opposite side of the house two levels up. You solved it your self. It has nothing to do with your electric or internet wires. The fact that it'd a $200 router doesn't make it great, you need a wifi extender if you want to boost your speed.

Get yourself a wireless range extender. It'll "extend" the signal coming from your basement wifi and you can leave it on the second or third floor. They have some at Best Buy for around $60. Good luck!

If you can move the router out of the basement and into your room or the attic if possible, that may work better for everyone's connection in the house. I've read just a few days ago that a wireless WiFi signal works better on higher floors sending the signal downward, than it does sending a wireless signal upward as your current situation dictates. Just wondering if this could make a huge difference for you and still not have an adverse affect on the other users. You could always try wireless signal booster if nothing else seems to work.

As others said you too far from the Router/Modem. Your options are a WiFi extender or a powerline adapter and 2nd Router

My recommendation would be to set up wireless bridge and upgrade your antennas if you can. The longer the distance the lower your reception and speed is going to be. A better antenna will increase your range and a wireless bridge/repeater will bring the source of the connection closer to you so the signal does not have to travel as far.

Also the cost of the wireless router does not directly relate to how good of a signal it will get. Some of the $50 routers can blow some of the $200 routers out of the water in terms of performance. I tend to stay way from a lot of the big brand routers for that reason.
