How long do month-long subscriptions last?

It sounds like a stupid question, but hear me out. If I bought a subscription for a service, e.g. Skype or match.com, that said it lasted for 1 month, would that mean that it would last between the 13th of March and the 13th of April? Or would it mean that once I'd bought the subscription I'd have it until the end of March and it would expire on April?
