What position should I play in football?
I'm going into my Sophmore year in high school. I'm 5"7 175 broad shouldered and muscular. I also play basketball so I am conditioned. I personally want to play linebacker but I was looking for some other opinions.

Not enough information. 5'7 is short for linebacker though, I will tell you that. I will also tell you, being conditioned for basketball is very different from being conditioned for football. In basketball, you need a lot of stamina. In football, you have to be a lot stronger, faster and more explosive. Stamina won't help you that much as football is usually short bursts of energy with a fairly decent break in between each burst.

QB - Too small; no idea if you can throw
HB - 5'7" 175 probably isn;t fast enough
FB - Probably not strong enough
WR - Too small unless you play slot but your build isnt ideal for a slot receiver
TE - Too small
OL - Possibly as backup maybe starter

DT - Not big enough
DE - Maybe if you grow
MLB - Probably not fast enough ; too small
OLB - Probably not fast enough or big enough
CB - not ideal build; probably to slow
FS - Same as CB
SS - Possibly if you;re fast enough

Id say most likely are OL and SS. OL is number 1, you dont fit any of then well but don;t be surprised if you get put at O-Line. It also depends on what the team looks like at each position. Hope I helped.

You should talk to your coach.. He will decide where you will play according g to the other talent available, what needs the team has and after seeing you in practice..... Good luck.....

LMAO @ the guy who gave you a position by position breakdown. He hasn't seen you or your team so he has no idea where (or if) you can play. You could be the world's second best guy at your positions but you won't play them if the world's best is on your team. You will probably start out at the positions you played last season but might get moved. If you didn't play last season you will start out somewhere behind a guy who played last year.

Good news: You don't have to pick a position. Your coach will assign positions for you on offense and defense. Anybody who ever really played knows that.

The number two football expert on God's green earth will come along in a couple days and tell you that your height and weight will make you an ideal high school <insert position here> if you know that actions speak louder than words, perform well in practice, eat healthy, run a lot, brush your teeth, always wear clean underwear, and one or two more stale cliches. He/she/it may also even tell you to stick to defense or offense (as if you get to choose). If you choose to take his/her/its advice be sure to tell your coach what the "top football expert" told you. Your still have years to work your way back up the depth charts.

Personally, I do not believe that your best fit is at linebacker. Based on your height and weight, I believe that the best fit for you is at strong safety. You have the ideal size for a high school sophomore strong safety.

My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this (and every) offseason is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school football player, who could go on to play college football.

By the way, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your sophomore, junior, and especially senior, years of high school. If you perform very well in football during your final 3 years of high school, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program in the future.
