Would you be on the same network as theirs? This mean connected to their router or wireless? If your not putting that in you own home network won't have anything to do with another persons home network.

Not unless you are connected to his network (or phone WiFi hotspot) and his computer is turned off. More than 1 device cannot use the same IP address on the same network at the same time.

Most people are behind a router on a private IP address (including using a mobile WiFi hotspot), so there is a chance that those settings might work on your home network to use "your" internet, or there is a bigger chance that you would nave no internet access if any of the numbers are not used or recognized by your network.

The IP address and gateway (router) address are specific to the network to which you are connected.

If you use a different gateway address, connections to other networks (including the Internet itself) will not work.

If you use a different IP address, then it will not work if the new address is in a different sub-net. If the new address is in the same sub-net, then it may work, but it cannot be guaranteed.

Changes to the sub-net mask and DNS address may produce results that are more difficult to define.

As long as you are still connected to your own ISP connection, then you will not be using his Internet connection. The connection is defined by the specific configuration of your router and the characteristics of the Internet line to which you are connected including the ISP company that provide the connection.

I hope this helps.
