is there a way to see websites that might've been taken down, or closed?

No, when a website is removed by the host, they take it out completely, if the website is blocked only, its possible to access only AFTER the block is removed since the IP of the site is banned

Archive.org. Otherwise known as the Way Back Machine. If you want to see a site that's recently done down, you can always search for it (type the URL into the Yahoo! search bar) and click the "cached" option in the listing.
