Can Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 540 be upgraded? I have a Compaq Presario C700 laptop..?
Based on some forums, the processor on this laptop can be upgraded. However, some are also saying it can't be done because it's soldered to the motherboard or something. I would just like to clarify that part.. and also, if it can be upgraded, is it gonna be cheap or will buying a new laptop be better than upgrading (in terms of price)? thanks in advance for the help! I did a little bit of research into your specific laptop and came across the upgrade page for it on HP's support site.

The processor is not listed on this page as a viable upgrade.

In most laptops, yes, the processor is in fact soldered onto the motherboard, making it EXTREMELY difficult to upgrade. Laptop processors are not like Desktop processors. Laptop CPUs are designed to be heat and energy efficient and a lot of consideration goes into what CPU will work with what laptop. Even computer professionals would have a ton of problems attempting to upgrade a Laptop CPU.

Based on the specifications your laptop has, I can say that the best path for you would be to look into a new computer. Most computers nowadays, even basic models, have better hardware built in than your C700.

I hope this helps.
