Here's how it works....

You have the INTERNET connection provided by Suddenlink ==>
Your MODEM connects to the internet==>
Your ROUTER takes the internet signal from the modem and ROUTES it to all computers connected to the router ==>
Your router usually has ethernet ports (wired network) and a WIRELESS network access point ==>
The WIRELESS portion of the router broadcasts your WIFI internet signal locally usually with a range of 100-300 ft. ==>
Your laptop has a WIRELESS card built into that will receive the signal and connect your laptop to the INTERNET (key music... the circle of life)

You call suddenlink, they come out and install the Wireless router. The Wireless part is important.
They setup you PC and Laptop.

how does wi fi work?

Works very similar to an FM radio, but with the capability to transmit and receive. The further away from or more obstructions between the signal source and the receiver the worse the connection gets.

how do you get internet connection everywhere?

You don't. Home wireless signal has a very limited range.

Good Luck
