why is my twitter following people on its own?

so, over the past couple months I've unfollowed several people on my twitter. I woke up this morning to get on there and for some reason I went from following 91 people to 123. what is going on? It's all people I unfollowed forever ago...and several people I never followed at all. but all of them still followed me after I unfollowed them. but there's a guy on there I've never even met and never followed previously but he's followed me for over 2 years. why is it doing this?

have you tried changing your password? someone might have gotten access somehow. it shouldn't be doing that.
