Why does he do this?

So I'm kind of close with this guy and I find him quite attractive (physically and personality wise) and he messaged me on facebook the other night. It was a pretty casual convo but it was really dry because he would always reply with a few word or even one word answers and seemed really bored. I don't get why he seems bored because he's the one who started the convo? I know this isn't a huge deal but I'm kinda confused so if anyone knows why he's doing this please tell me in the comments thanks!

He wants you to lead the conversation because he probably is into you but just doesn't know how to be open about his feelings because he's a male and face it, males are great at being passive-agressive via Facebook.
