Why is my internet connection so slow?
It's been fine for the longest time. But today I noticed the latency for some games I been playing have sky rocketed. There is NOTHING downloading and I am the only one using the internet connection. Most servers on the games I been playing the latency is around 80-120. Now they are 500 or higher. Why is my internet decreased in performance? I have tried restarting my modem.

What kind of internet connection do you have? DSL? Cablemodem? How fast is it? Go to a speed test website such as http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and see how fast your connection is. It should tell you ping and your upload/download. Post those numbers here.

If you have another computer, try that, even a laptop or whatever. Try a speed test from that too. If you have a router like a linksys or whatever, try removing it and plug your computer directly into the modem device. If you plug in to the modem device and a speed test still shows bad numbers, you probably need to call the provider and open a trouble ticket to get your connection fixed.

The order of operations
A) Remove anything that could confound your testing (ie, linksys or d-link or whatever)
B) Plug known good PC/laptop into modem
C) Run several speed tests
D) Compare speed test results to speed you are paying for from your provider
E) If you remove a device and it fixes it, fix or replace the device. If your speed test numbers don't match stated carrier performance, call your provider to get them to come fix it.
