I have been working for a site, and finally decided to move thedomain name to new one. Thing is that I have to continue with the new site with all my content. What all important stuffs need to be done to keep my ranking stable in Google.

If done improperly you would be effectively restarting from scratch.

Luckily the search engines accept a 301 permanent redirect as a means to redirect backlinks and link juice to a different page.

I'm a bit lame on the specific mechanics, if you recreate the same hierarchical structure in the new site, you should be able to have a redirect on each page of the old site pointing to the counterpart on the new site.

There are probably more elegant ways without having to have 2 copies of the site, perhaps an .htaccess script with wildcards that do the remapping without having a line of code for each page.

"keep my ranking stable in Google."!!! Impossible - it's a different domain.

To move your site(hopefully a simple one & not a Wordpress one or have my-sql databses), download load your site to your hard drive and then upload it to the hosting account for the new domain name making sure any reference to the old domain name is updated.

There are certain check points to pay attention to

- Use 301 redirects to point old URLs to respective news URLs
- Make sure the internal linking pattern remains the same
- Create a new XML sitemap and submit it to Google
- Replicate the old robots.txt file and the canonical URLs pattern on the new domain (if applicable)
