Guys--need your help? Comic books?
A guy I’m interested in told me he likes collecting comics and I wanted to surprise him with one when we go on our first date this weekend. The problem is I know nothing about comic books, or have any clue about what he likes except for the few hints I see on his facebook of pictures that have batman and superman and wonder woman in them…I don’t want to ask him specifically what he likes because I want it to be a surprise. Does anyone have any ideas?

If he hasn't read it, I highly recommend Watchmen. It doesn't have any famous/reused heroes like batman, superman, etc. (as these heroes have been used for decades and have been written into multiple different adaptations/worlds by multiple different authors and artists) but is really good. Also, if he likes politics and what not, I also recommend V for Vendetta. Both Watchmen and V for Vendetta can be a little slow at times, but are known for being some of the best American comics or "must reads" for comic lovers.

Batman ones that are known for being the best:
-The killing Joke
-A mirror darkly
-Robin Year one (love this one, but its not one of the super serious ones)
-Batgirl year one (I'm a girl, so idk if he just wants batman in action or what but i really love this one too)
-Scarecrow year one

Just warning though: I HIGHLY advise against getting any New 52 DC comics-they have not been to my favor.

I would say, just hold off on the comic book gift. Ask him about comics on the first few dates, then after a few dates, once you have enough info about what he likes, give him a comic book/graphic novel.

Get him the first comic for the Amazing Spider-Man reboot comic. It is when Peter gets his body back from Doc Ock
