Question about removing a tag on facebook?

ok so my sorta friend tagged me in a photo on facebook and i have a weird face in the photo and its embarassing me to death i need to get it off my profile. i know how to remove the tag. i went to options, then clicked "remove tag" but it won't let me remove the tag without sending a message to my friend explaining why and stuff. dafudge?! i do NOT want to send a message to her explaining why i untagged myself. i figured if i untagged myself she wouldnt find out but now she will have to if i untag myself. HOW DO I UNTAG MYSELF WITHOUT HER KNOWING AND WITHOUT HAVING TO SEND HER A MESSAGE? is it because i have facebook timeline?? i never had this issue before.
