how do you calm your anxiety?
Im panicking right now for no good reason...it was triggered a few hours ago when i was hanging out wih my friend then suddenly a bunch of her friends from her old school came to surprise her and they were all excited jumping up and down, crying, etc and i felt really bombarded. Im still all shook up from it? and also on facebook ive been noticing my crush and this girl who ive always been jealous of are flirting and interacting a lot and i feel like he's lost interest in me. Also tommorow all my friends have plans so i will be alone the whole entire day. I cant stand feeling lonely and left out. Im just on the verge of a panic attack and i hate this feeling. How do you deal with your anxiety when you start stressing over unimportant things?

i have an anxiety too, mine crowds.
Different things can help you over come your anxiety. since you dont like be alone, if probably be good if your old enough to get a pet or roommate, or get a job that involves working with people. You could try online dating or something too, or you could try counseling or finding things to distract you , it doesn't work for some people though.

Nora,

Thank you for reaching out today. Feeling anxious is very uncomfortable; it's great that you recognize that you need some support. If these feelings have a sudden onset you may want to see you doctor to rule out any physical problems. In addition to seeing your doctor, you may want to see a therapist. A therapist or counselor can help you develop coping strategies for when you are particularly anxious. You also might want to touch base with your school counselor to let her know what's going on. She can also be a source of support to you as well.

When you become anxious have you ever considered activities that make you more relaxed? Some people use exercise, listening to music, writing/drawing, or talking with a friend or family member to cope when they feel anxious or overwhelmed. If you are around people try to calm your breathing down; take slow deep breaths.

If you would like to talk more about this issue call the Boys Town National Hotline, 24/7, at 1-800-448-3000, or go to http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org.

Take care,

NF, counselor
