Are hardcore atheists as bad as hardcore religious people? and does either side see they are alike?
So my view is this
"being atheist, its fine if you can treat others different from yourself kindly and not quick to judge or push your views on them

being religious, its fine if you can treat others different from yourself kindly and not quick to judge or push your views on them"

So to start this off i will explain that i am agnostic. i neither believe in a deity but i also dont deny its possible.

i am apart of a group on facebook that recently has had a surge in very strong viewed atheists. the problem is they treat any one on the page like crap for having a faith even though the people i have seen are not pushing their faith, are not using their faith as an excuse to be bigots, or really any negative way at all. "we recently had a group of really religious people who were doing the same thing a few months back toward any one who did not accept jesus as their lord and savior"

So today i was wondering if people so far down in their personal views can see they are not better then those they criticize? is it possible for some one to show some one they are being hypocritical and what does it take to show some one they need to just live and let live? also why do you think people get so deep in their religious or atheistic views that they cant leave some one alone for having a different view?
I posted something like this on another place i frequent and allot of people did not get what i meant on hardcore atheists...and to be fair i did not explain myself. because lets face it...you dont see atheists burning down churches in force like you see hardcore religious people burning down abortion clinics or atheists trying to take away the right to practice religion in your church like you see some religious types try to tell the LGBT they cant marry on grounds of religious views but there are those who are atheist who do give us a bad name by starting issues, bullying, ect . i guess i really just mean very opinionated atheists who start the arguments and insults instead of those amazing individuals like Melting Media who only counter punch or react when religious types get political "that is 100% understandable".
you mean well contradictions and i hope no one close minded thumbs you down just because you are religious

my view is as long as you treat others kindly even if they dont believe what you do then thats all that matters....well and just genuinely being kind to others. i hope you treat those with differing views kindly. i would hope that if there was a god or deity of any type that they would only care if the person was nice to others and did not care about the persons religion or lack of, sexuality, and so on.
if there is a god or deity and being LGBT, being of another faith, or any of the numerous other "sins" we are told of then i would honestly rather burn in hell.
can i pick all 4 of your awnsers to be the best ones? i agree with melting media, muslim female, pancho, and even contradiction to some degree as long as they are one of the real christians i have heard of who love thy neighbor and not one of the hate mongering ones.

I'm an atheist who only counter-punches. I have no interest nor business in the beliefs of others. Once they cross the line into politics or public life, then we have an argument.

And oh yes, Chris, I do get annoyed with preachy atheists. The word means "no belief in god/gods" so it should stay with the individual. I absolutely loathed the late Madelyn Murray O'Hair, who founded American Atheists. She was an obnoxious, disrespectful and greedy woman who alienated some of her own children. She falsely claimed she overturned adult-led prayer in schools, when it was really started and finished by Ellery Schempp, a Unitarian teen who noticed his Catholic and Jewish classmates were uncomfortable during his high school's daily devotions.

O'Hair went on to annoy believers and create the perception all atheists are jerks. Schempp quietly continued his education and wrote his doctoral thesis in 1968 on the possibility of the MRI, which we now have. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Schempp in 2004 and he is a kind and polite man, a man who prefers peace to fighting.

Some atheists make fun of people with such silly beliefs (as they put it)
Some religious people force others to believe in the existence of god or they start attacking you.

And I am a Muslim and I don't care about other people's belief system and what not. I am just stating my observation.

Well religious people are usually told that they have to spread the word of their religion, as a Christian we are taught that we have to spread the word about Christ no matter what so part of it comes out of love, in our minds hell is real we don't want people to go there, I can't imagine someone spending eternity in hell and what kind of human would I be if I kept quiet and let people suffer in hell forever. I admit that after awhile you should let go and pray for the people you are worried about.

I've been saying this forever: That there's no difference between an atheist and a hardcore Christian: They both have rigid dogmas, they're all about beliefs and being right and being smug. What's the difference? I don't see any. Neither of them are interested in seeking beyond their own narrow viewpoints ...

I would say it's the extremists on both sides that make up most of the crap.
