Teacher forcing me to delete social media?
A teacher at my school had obviously been searching up students names at the school, and has instructed me and my friends to delete our ask.fm accounts. My friends and I haven't been cyber bullied on it, nor do we ever have problems on it. I personally have no plans on deleting my account, but I just want to know if teachers actually have the right make us delete them? It's not like we have been using the site at school, so I don't understand what the problem is. Our school year is nearly over and a few day agos, this teacher threatened my friend by saying if we didn't delete it we would have detentions everyday next year. So, can teachers actually make us delete any social media sites? Thanks Smile

Theoretically, assuming you are posting nothing slanderous about the teachers of educational institute themselves, and aren't using the site on their property, they can't tell you what to do on your free time. However, depending on your grade level (and considering you mentioned detention, i'm imagining middle or high school), rules can be overlooked. Teachers tend to get away with a lot under the ruse of "protecting the student". Take the matter to your principle, and let him/her make a decision. Also consult your parents prior to making any rash, possibly conflict-creating decisions.

Maybe S/he wants you to delete them because S/he is doing something wrong, and is worried that you kids might post something about it? She can't really make you delete it. That's like her coming to your home and taking your iPod or something. Tell your mother.

"can teachers actually make us delete any social media sites?" In the circumstances you describe, the answer is, no they cant.

NO. Teachers only have serious volition over you on school grounds. Also, teachers cannot give you detention if you have not broken school rules. Keep your accounts.

Nasty surprise for your teacher: if they also have ask.fm accounts, look for them. Look for what they did, take a screenshot and keep it. It might come in handy later.

My point is, keep your accounts, boys.
