Should I go to this party?
A friend at work is having a birthday and I'm invited. But one of my closest friends, who also works there, is not. my best guess is just that they don't have each other's Facebook (invite was through fb), and because they haven't spoken very often (she's quite new at work). I know there will be fb photos posted, and if by chance she sees me (tagged) with all the coworkers, well I'd be pretty cut if it was me. I want her to come, but is it weird to ask the host to invite her? I mean it's not my party...

Just ask the host if you can bring your friend. I've done it a million times...

Why not? All parties are no going to be attended for all people working in the same company. Good luck.

If you want her to go, I don't see the harm in asking the person who is planning the party if you would be able to bring your closest friend along. I don't think it would be weird... It would only be weird if the person showed up without you asking if they could come along. But by asking, you would be respectful about it and there's nothing at all weird with it. And chances are, the host won't mind it, especially if that person already knows your friend. Plus, most mature people have a "the more the merrier" kind of attitude when it comes to parties. So I think you're good. However, if the host is putting money into the party for each person, then I could see how that person may not want anyone else to be invited. In any case, just ask and see what happens. If the person says no, respect it but also explain to your friend why she couldn't go (if it's a good reason). If it's a yes, then great.

I don't think it's weird! Just go up to the host with some general questions about the party and then ask very casually. "Is it okay if I bring *name* with to the party?" I don't think they will mind at all unless it's a 6th grade girl's sleep over party Smile
