Does facebook spam you with ads?

When i tried to login to facebook today it told me that suspicious activity has been detected on my account and that i need to confirm that I'm a real person by providing my phone number. (Its probably cause i had 2 accounts) Now im scared to give away my number, becuase they might spam me with ads or something. So if anyone had this happen and gave their phone, did facebook ever send spam? Thanks in advance.

They Are Not Going to Spam you with Ads its Just Use For Varifcation that your the account owner

No, the only ads I've seen on Facebook are always to the side, out of the way enough that it's not even annoying. It's kind of hilarious what kinds of ads come up though.
