How do you completely erase your Facebook profile?

I want to erase my entire Facebook profile, but all ive found on the site is an option to "deactivate" your profile, which keeps your data on the servers,
I dont want this, what right do they have to keep our data permanently??? i want all my data erased,
Is there any way to go about it? without phoning/emailing?

In the top menu bar there is a "settings" button. Click it. Scroll down the next page, and there is a "deactivate account" feature, clicking this will take you through the steps of deactivating your Facebook.

Delete everything on your profile, then deactivate your account. Then all of your information is gone.
