How do I get this girl to talk to me?

This girl I like and I have been put in the same group for a project in AP Government. I have liked her for a while, and I kind of think she likes me, but she never talks! She is the most quite girl at school. I know she has dated other guys so I know that I wouldn't be the first. We were in our groups for the project and no matter how much me and the other person talked about the project, she did not say a thing. I asked her a couple questions about it to try to get her to start talking, but she still was quite. I want to try just talking to her about other things rather than the work at hand. What are some good things to talk about to get a really really quite girl talking? She did put a picture of a piece of art work she did on Facebook on Monday, would it be okay to mention to her now, on Thursday, that I thought it was really good. ( It actually was really good!)

Well as a really really quiet girl I say that you should complement her on her art as an opener and ask some light questions about it that she can't reply with just yes or no. Other than that just keep it up with other light questions and comments like 'what was the homework' or 'that sure was a hard quiz' until she opens up. Be persistent!
