I never thought of myself of a "loser" persay, but I don't seem to have as many friends as everyone else on facebook. I guess I'm a loner. Does this mean I am not as cool as the gorgeous girls with 1000+ friends? Be honest.

No that just means that they know how to make more meaningless relationships than you do. I do not have as many friends as some of my friends who meet people once and become their facebook friend. I'm not like that... I don't care and neither shall you!

its an artificial way to go about it-- but then again when was social status a genuinely earned trait.

think about this, "Forbidden" was just a model before myspace, so was tila tequilla. having lots of friends on these sites might mean that the quality of friends you are linked to is lower, but your reach is farther.

I am happy to say I would have a cup of coffee with everyone i'm friends with online, but this feeling of superiority shows that I am not up to snuff with the new paradigm.

The person who has 1000+ friends becomes a gate keeper. People want to be their friend so they can have access to their huge pool of friends and social activities. Someone with 1000+ friends has 5-10 parties a weekend that they are invited to and if they throw a party at a club they can guaranty a big turn out. A big turn out means they will be treated better by the club. There are ways to leverage a large group of "friends" in situations in every aspect of your life.

No. Facebook is a world of it's own... being friends on facebook doesn't mean you're friends in real life. Some people try too hard and friend everyone they've ever met, to give the illusion that they're popular. Facebook does not equate to real life
